In brief
Bishkek's fence, Irad's gap
Kyrgyz officials said on 29 October that the fence along the Kyrgyz-Tajik border is finished, 327 km in all. As IradOne put it on Sunday, Irad reads the news against its own frontier, which has no fence. The Qara-Chik line is marked by surveyed pillars on the steppe and by crests and foothills in the mountains. There is no agreement with Kyrgyzstan. The ISEZ posts at Suzak and Kichi-Korgon deal with Kyrgyz posts informally, and El-Choro posts hold Kök-Jangak and Ak-Kyya, with no ISEZ presence. Kyrgyz complaints about traffic arrive through UNMI, the ceasefire table or the press. A fence would not change that route.
